This Metadata Monday is a call to all the screenwriters out there: Please use Fountain!
Fountain is a very simple markup syntax that can be used to write scripts. It’s so simple you can use it without prior knowledge in a normal plain text program (e. g. “Editor” or “TextEdit”). Here you can see how easy to handle it actually is: http://fountain.io/dingus
The great advantage: the script can be processed very easily for integrating it in further tools (shooting schedule, script supervisor apps, editing programs). Also, you can gain important metadata without any more effort and ideally scale the script for viewing it on mobile devices.
Popular script programs like Final Draft, CeltX or Adobe Story already run based on Fountain, but still there are .doc or .pdf script files around. So we keep preaching: Death to Word-and Pdf-files! Long live Fountain!
